UPDATES : New speakers : hifi v/s monitor
I heard once a pair of cabasse skiff and really enjoyed their pure cabasse hifi tone...so when having a good oportunity, I had to buy those. One of the tweeter was k.o. but it was really easy to find a replacement dom2 tweeter from a fellow hifi fanatic.
I just love their classic look
and veneer , certainly the last era of that really great cabasse look. Their
tone is a joy for classical music or cool jazz...not my favorite boxes for rock
, but when you put them on pink floyd you feel like a journey in time when their
best LP were out. So much for nostlagia.
I threw in my super-tweeters for
a breeze of fresh air.
They are hooked on my Music Angel
el34 amp, which performs really, really better since I fitted it with Philips
labelled el34 and n.o.s. sylvania 6SN7. That's the real fun about tube amp :
you can swap tubes ad nauseam to find the right combination. The CD player
is the one I made out of my famous asus drives and upsampling gigadac with mykonos
at the end. Still a legendray cd player for me, even after my experiences with
32bit.
Notice the Abby sings Abby cd....a must-have for music AND hifi testing.
Abby's voice is so complex...
Those
guitar amps have 2 things in common : they sound great and are made of wood.
Like a guitar.
I have been frustrated lately with a deal on yamaha ns1000m which was canceled at the last minute. So I passed my frustration with these telefunken tlx33 which seems to me a German response for that big monitors, since they themselves were a response to the mitsubishi diatone monopoly on japanese radio monitor market. A response to the the response.
There seems to be a misunderstanding
in the hifi world of the term 'monitor'. As an old musician I can say what a
monitor is : A speaker that allows you to make your mix in a way it will sound
the same on any hifi, Iphone or car radio in the world. This means that ANY
bump in the frequencies produced by your monitor speaker system will induce
an error in your music mix. Monitor speakers MUST be flat. Just as the guys
at telefunken show on this frequency response printing----just need to prove
the speakers actually do this....
'Flat' is not that pleasing when you 'only'
listen to your fave recording. You get lost in details, feel some lack of presence---maybe
that's why they put this knob---....well in a word you don't feel pleasure...I
am pretty sure that the best hifi speakers in the world are not flat.
I
have not yet experimented that tlx33 as monitors, but , used ofr cd listening,
they seem to be close to that no-sensation. A good thing.
