UPDATES : tda1541 non-oversampling marantz cd56
I have become so addicted to the nos mod on 1541 tone , that I put this great marantz on the bench for the real mod. Really easy in fact if you follow the instruction on the net . The A-chip here is called m4804a but is really a saa7210 , so here we go with a sharp cutter, some wire and a marker.
The board...I just did what is
clearly explained on the web. I just LOVE this tone...
Of course I took the signal after the I/V conversion opamp as usual. Here the 2 double opamps are 1 per channel, so I had to find out what part made the conversion and what part amplify the signal and no schematics...by ear, I took the output on pin 7, while being conscient it should have been pin 1....and wire it directly to the outputs...you can argue that there is no caps, but I don't think there is one amplifier on earth that has no caps on its input...prove me wrong...
This philips
cd560 is exactly the same machine.
One question remains : why did the Philips engineers , far from being stupid, put all this sound-destroying stuff in their machines ???.
Well the answer is easy : as great as this player sounds now, it could not be sold on the market.
1-Because of the removal of the last opamp part and filters , the player makes a loud pop when turned on/off
2- Because of the removal of the
oversampling routine, some ugly distortion can show up depending of the recording
and the peaks it has.
The 3A cd player, which has no oversampling, was FULL
of horrible filters to correct that.
If you were at Philips you would
even think of removing these parts.
Same thing as the spdif output ---see
the section-- that has to work with ANY dac and not disturb the laser.
For
us, jusqu'au-bout-istes, we can accept all that in the name of sound
purity, but what about your uncle ?
Next step will be adding a mykonos at
the end of this wonderful player for full forbidden pleasure...
