UPDATES : big power T-class amps
I have always known that my incredible
Elipson 4240 speakers needed a big power amp to be drived correctly bass-wise
. So here I go trying the T-class amps already available with high-power . Here
is the 2x90w very correctly implemented with security relays and built-in power
supply.
A great amp that has unfortunately an opamp as preamp. I tried replacing
it with mykonos but the impedance was incorrect and I could hear a buzz coming
certainly from the switching power supply. I have to try a mykonos with jfet
that could match impedance better.
Anyway I put a ST micro TL072 which sounded
better to my ears than the stock JRC4553.
Here it is properly boxed with the obligatory shiny white enclosure . Beautiful.
This other amp is given for 2x100w with only a 12v ( or more ) dc. Very easy to build --- I only had to add a stereo volume --- and the cooling fan is ok when the music is played.
This amp amazes me . It does
not sound like the other T-amps . More bass, more power and an organic feeling
that could be old triodes . So cheap, so small and easy to build .... I still
don't know which one sounds better ... maybe the big 2x90w is more detailed
in the trebles but the incredible bass of this little wonder plus its warmth
make it these days my fave....until ...
