UPDATES : tda1541 still king
I already tried this cd75mkII as a transport with no great success. So why not use it as it was meant to be : the great meeting of the cdm1 mkII and tda1541 for the best tone possible ....
That wart including variable output circuit and headphone amp was of course removed---that doesn't look philips to my eyes anyway---as well as the spdif output and music taken after the first part of opamps...a 5mn mod for a tone from heaven as always.
Or this nice cd473 with its great engraved COMPOSITE cdm4 and tda1541A....
This time I did not even put my own cinch plugs and use the one already available from variable ouput , of course disconnected......
While at it, I wanted to do the nos mode on this player. Unlike the marantz cd50/40, there is no access from the back of the circuit , so , to access the board I had to dismantle everything : front, drawer, laser, etc.... what a bore...
The usual mod always easy to perform. I wanted to upgrade the tda1541 caps but there is no room enough between the board and the box to solder big caps so let's trust the small surface thingies from philips.... anyway, tone from heaven as always...
For
late night sound tests I use my trusty AKG K242 with the ultra-cheap behringer
headphone amp....A precise couple nevertheless..
New
addition to my testing set-up , this ultra-q from our friends at behringer which
allows me to EQ precisely the upper bass of my Elipson.
So we are here after
a lot of tweaking and test to go back to crude 1541 tone....Cheap and impossible
to beat...You just need an old philips player featuring the legendary chip,
3 wires and a five minute work...Still the king.
